How gematria is worked out
Gematria assigns numeric values to letters and adds them up. The English ciphers here are Ordinal (A=1 to Z=26), Full Reduction (reduced to a single digit), their reverse forms, and the Latin or Jewish cipher where letters step through units, tens and hundreds.
The comparison field exists because matching values between two phrases is what most people are actually looking for. It reports which ciphers agree, if any.

The maths behind it
Ordinal: A = 1 … Z = 26
Full Reduction: ordinal value reduced to 1–9
Reverse Ordinal: A = 26 … Z = 1
Latin/Jewish: A–I = 1–9, J–R = 10–90, S–Z = 100–800

As an example, with a word or phrase of wisdom, the calculator returns a english Ordinal of 83. Underneath, Full Reduction comes out at 29 and Reverse Ordinal at 79. Change any field and every figure updates as you type.
Frequently asked questions
Which cipher is the correct one?
There is no single correct cipher. Different traditions use different systems, and English gematria is a modern adaptation of a Hebrew practice.
Do matching numbers mean anything?
With enough ciphers and enough phrases, coincidental matches are close to guaranteed. Treat any match as a curiosity rather than evidence.
Are spaces and punctuation counted?
No — only letters contribute. Everything else is ignored.
