Enter each course’s letter grade and credit hours to get your weighted grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
How gpa is worked out
This GPA calculator computes a weighted grade point average. Add a row for each course, choose its letter grade and enter the credit hours, and it returns your GPA on the standard 4.0 scale.
Weighting by credits means higher-credit courses count more, just as most schools calculate it.
Worked example
On the values this calculator opens with, the GPA is 4. Underneath, Total credits comes out at 9 and Quality points at 36. Change any field and every figure updates as you type.
Using the calculator

The maths behind it
quality points = credits × grade value
GPA = total quality points ÷ total credits
Questions people ask about this
How is GPA calculated?
Multiply each course’s credits by its grade value (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on), add those up, and divide by total credits.
What are the grade values?
This tool uses the common scale: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, down to F = 0. Your school may differ slightly.
What’s a weighted vs unweighted GPA?
Unweighted caps at 4.0. Weighted scales give extra points for honors or AP courses — check your school’s policy.
