Find your body shape category and the underlying ratios from three measurements.
How this calculator arrives at its answer
Body shape categories describe proportions between bust, waist and hips โ useful mainly for clothing fit and tailoring. The calculator reports the ratios behind the label so you can see why a shape was assigned.
The waist-to-height ratio is included because it is the one measure here with a health signal: staying below 0.5 is a common general guideline.
Worked example
As an example, with a height of 168, the calculator returns a body shape of Pear / triangle. Underneath, Waist-to-hip ratio comes out at 0.73 and Waist-to-bust ratio at 0.8. Change any field and every figure updates as you type.
Using the calculator
- Measure bust, waist and hips at their widest or narrowest points.
- Enter all three in the same unit.
- Add height for the waist-to-height ratio.
The calculation
hourglass: bust โ hips and waist at least 25% smaller
pear: hips exceed bust by more than 5% ยท inverted triangle: bust exceeds hips
rectangle: bust โ hips with less waist definition
FAQ
How do I measure correctly?
Bust at the fullest point, waist at the narrowest part of the torso, hips at the widest point. Keep the tape level and snug but not tight.
Does body shape change?
Proportions shift with weight change, training and age, though the underlying skeletal frame stays the same.
Is one shape healthier?
Shape itself is not a health measure. Waist-to-height ratio carries more signal than the category label.
