Texas has no state income tax, so your paycheck only loses federal tax and FICA. See what that leaves you.
The method behind this calculator
Texas is one of a small group of states that levies no personal income tax at all, so the state line on your payslip is genuinely zero. What comes out of a Texas paycheck is federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare, and nothing else at state level.
The trade-off sits outside the payslip. Texas funds itself largely through property tax, which is among the highest in the country, and through sales tax. A Texas salary therefore goes further month to month than the same salary in a high-income-tax state, but the housing cost comparison is where the difference is often clawed back.
Texas also has no state disability insurance deduction and no local income taxes, so no city or school district can add a payroll levy on top.
How to use it
- Enter your pay amount and how often you are paid.
- Set your filing status, state and tax year.
- Add pre-tax deductions to see how they change the net figure.
The calculation
Worked example
As an example, with a pay basis of Annual salary, the calculator returns a take-home pay of $1,977.15. Underneath, Gross per period comes out at $2,500 and Federal income tax at $206.6. Change any field and every figure updates as you type.
