Calculate dimensional weight for any DIM divisor and see which weight the carrier will bill you for.
What this calculator does
Carriers charge for the space a package occupies as well as its weight, because a trailer fills up long before it hits its weight limit. Dimensional weight converts volume into a weight equivalent using a divisor, and you are billed on whichever figure is higher.
The divisor matters more than people expect. Dropping from 166 to 139 raises the dimensional weight of the same box by around 19%, which is why carriers revising their divisor is effectively a price rise.
A worked example
On the values this calculator opens with, the billable weight is 18.2 lb. Underneath, Dimensional weight comes out at 18.13 lb and Actual weight at 8 lb. Change any field and every figure updates as you type.
Step by step
- Enter the outside dimensions of the packed box.
- Enter the actual weight.
- Choose the DIM divisor your carrier uses.
