Estimate creatinine clearance with the Cockcroft-Gault equation, using actual, ideal and adjusted body weight.
How this calculator arrives at its answer
Creatinine clearance remains the reference used in most drug labelling for renal dose adjustment, which is why it persists alongside eGFR. The Cockcroft-Gault equation estimates it from age, weight, sex and serum creatinine.
Which weight to use matters. Actual body weight overestimates clearance in obesity, so ideal or adjusted body weight is often preferred โ this calculator shows all three so you can compare.
How to fill it in
- Enter age, sex and serum creatinine.
- Enter weight and height so ideal body weight can be derived.
- Compare the actual, ideal and adjusted body weight results.
How the number is calculated
The default scenario, worked through
On the values this calculator opens with, the creatinine clearance is 88.9. Underneath, Using ideal body weight comes out at 78.3 mL/min and Using adjusted body weight at 82.5 mL/min. Change any field and every figure updates as you type.
