Marketplace Fee Calculator

Work out what you actually keep after selling fees, payment processing and shipping, plus your break-even price.

How the marketplace fee calculator works

Selling fees are usually quoted as a single percentage, but the real deduction is more complicated: most platforms charge on the shipping you collect as well as the item price, then add a fixed per-order fee on top.

Because fee structures differ by platform and category, every rate here is editable. Enter the percentages your marketplace actually charges and the calculator handles the rest, including the price you would need to charge just to break even.

How to use it

  1. Enter your sale price and any shipping you charge the buyer.
  2. Enter the marketplace fee percentage and fixed fee.
  3. Add your item cost and actual shipping cost for profit.

The formula

fees = fee-bearing amount ร— fee % + fixed fee + processing % net payout = price + shipping charged โˆ’ fees profit = net payout โˆ’ item cost โˆ’ actual shipping

The default scenario, worked through

On the values this calculator opens with, the net payout is $95.03. Underneath, Total fees comes out at $14.98 and Gross received at $110. Change any field and every figure updates as you type.

Frequently asked questions

Do fees apply to shipping I charge?
On most platforms, yes โ€” the fee is calculated on the total the buyer pays. The toggle lets you model either case.
What is the break-even price?
The sale price at which profit is exactly zero, once fees and your costs are covered. Anything below it loses money.
Why do my fees differ from the quoted rate?
Fixed per-order fees have an outsized effect on cheap items, and processing fees are often charged separately from the marketplace commission.
